We do joke around when it comes to improv comedy

Scenes from a Hat is a public access cable show recorded at Town Square Television in Inver Grove Heights, MN. Our show is similar to "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" in that we perform short-form improv comedy games, or scenes, in front of a live studio audience. Unlike WLIIA, we involve our audience to a much higher degree by requesting parameters for every game. This gives our improvisers, or players, a completely random scene to improv.

Open to the public

SFAH recording days are like a night at the club only we record in the afternoon and there's little chance of a hangover afterward. No promises though. We record five episodes once a month typically on the third Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While you are welcome to join us for the entire day, the best times are from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM when we showcase our top players. You are welcome to watch one or all the episodes with no restrictions - come and go as you like. We're pretty easy going that way. At 10:00 AM we feature our newest players who are appearing in a single game or possibly the entire episode depending on their skill level. 10:00's episode features those whose skills are developing but will appear in an entire episode. At 4:00 PM we wrap and begin cleaning up and tearing down the studio. You don't have to help unless you really really want to. As a public access TV show, we share the resources and studio with other from the community.

Appear on the show

SFAH welcomes anyone wanting to get onto the show and strut their improv comedy stuff. Join our Improv-U to learn the games, practice improv techniques, and get to know your fellow improvisors. It's free, it's fun, and anyone is welcome to join us. We meet at the Town Square Television studio the Wednesday just prior to our recording day. Go to our Facebook page and find the event for Improv-U for dates and times. Even if you have no intention of being on the show, feel free to come, watch, participate and maybe, just maybe, you might find out that being on the show is for you after all. You'll never know until you try it.

Behind the cameras

Want to join the fun but not in front of the camera, no problem. We could use a camera person or two or three, production assistants, floor directors, and other crew positions. This is strictly a volunteer situation until Comedy Central discovers us and throws gobs of money at us in a multi-season contract. For now, we take our cues from "Wayne's World" and do this public access thing. So what does this mean for you? Well, it means you get bragging rights about being on the production crew of a TV show (yes, real TV!), credit on IMDB (we'll create your page if you don't already have one), and lunch. You also get a free comedy show! That's a $50 value. But wait, if you act now, we'll throw in a total of five free improv comedy episodes at no extra cost. Supplies are limited so act now.
